SPECIAL by Georgia Blain
What a great read! Fern Marlow comes from a super poor background but is chosen in a lottery at birth to be “Special”.
Her family is ecstatic. The win means Fern is born with a specially designed body, intelligence and personality. So specially pretty and smart, at five years old she gets to go off to the elite Halston school where the grass is green, the girls play music and the food is delicious. If the other three lotto girls sometimes notice that there is a difference between the rich girls who bought their special designs and them, who won theirs by chance, Fern is blissfully unaware.
Ten years later, things go wrong, and we find how just how different the lotto girls are. Fern is thrust in a dark underworld which takes every ounce of her resilience to survive. If you like The Hunger Games and Divergent you are probably going to like this too. So go for it.
